Didn’t Meet 2023 UNILAG Admission Cut Off Mark, Here Are 8 Possible Resolutions

It has been two days since the University of Lagos, UNILAG, officially released the Cut off mark for 2023 admission session for UTME candidates who chose the institution as first choice and participated in the conducted aptitude test.

YOMSDIRECT observed that the highest departmental cut off marks based on its hierarchy for merit level this year were Medicine and Surgery, (MBBS), pegged 84.675, Computer science of the faculty of science, pegged 81.95, Mechanical engineering pegged as 81.925 and Computer engineering 81.2 which all ranked above 80 grade mark for the admission of candidates who are not within the catchment level.
Meanwhile, candidates who were so close to this earmarked courses have been left thoughtful, finding it difficult to know what rightful decision will grant them admission this year. Especially students, who find themselves not in the catchment level and have aggregate score that reached the eight tens (eighty), so close to the merit score but not up to the mark.

Moreover, candidates who failed to meet both the merit and catchment departmental cut off mark may have the feeling that he /she has wasted this admission year again and have to wait for next year admission, which might not be the case, hence the purpose of this article.

Here are 8 Possible Resolutions If You Failed To Meet 2023 UNILAG Admission Cut Off Marks

  1. UNILAG Changing Course

Note, Unilag in several cases considers students who did not reach the cut off mark for his initial course into another course. For example a student who did not meet the cut off mark for law might be considered for another art course such as history and strategic studies. Although this consideration has no particular requirement. The consideration is within the discretion of the admission office. While this is Possible, we do not tell students to rely solely on this. Infact all you will be doing now is risk. If it favours you, it’s well and good and if it doesn’t, all well and good.

2. Change Of Institution

Another alternative a student should is changing institution to schools that are yet to begin the sale of their Post Utme or those that have commenced but yet to close the sale of form. Note that the moment you change from Unilag to another institution, your details will be removed from Unilag to the school you recently changed too. So do not expect admission from Unilag.

What You Should Do After Seeing 2023 UNILAG Admission Cut-Off Mark

3. How often can one change institution
Note if you fail to get admission in a particular university, you can change institution and course as much as you like, only to institution that you have not registered to before.

4. Place to do this

In addition, students are to visit the cbt Centre to make a change. This change might not reflect immediately so there’s no need to panic. Just keep monitoring the portal of the new institution you changed to. If this school admission doesn’t favour you can proceed to another institution that the form is yet to close. If it has closed and you went further to change to it, it will considered as a waste of resources.

5. University To change to

Several universities have their post UTME sale on, whereas others have not release the date for sale. Schools under these categories are UNN, UNILORIN, UI, OAU and others.

Other Programmes

6. JUPEB (Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board)

Another alternative you should consider and it is highly recommended. How does JUPEB work? That would be the next question expected to run through your mind. It’s a PROGRAMME that’s run by various Universities in Nigeria and very popular. The PROGRAMME will run for nine months and at the end, an exam will be written. At the end of the exam you’ll move into two hundred level if you meet the cut off for the course you applied for.

Kindly be informed that this form is currently on sale by various institutions. If interested message YOMSDIRECT

7. IJMB (Interim Joints Matriculation Board)

It follows this JUPEB system also
But it is not as widely accepted as JUPEB, schools that use this are UNILORIN, Ahmadu Bello amongst others

8. Predegree

This programme is quite different from JUPEB and IJMB, because it is a programme that prepares candidates ahead of what they will meet in school and helpful in acing JAMB. After undergoing through this programme, they take JAMB and find it easy to gain admission because of the background knowledge cumulated in the Programme.
